Woman!

It's been a million years since I saw you online - where are you???

Or maybe it's Easter holidays and you're out romping around the continent? *green*

Anywayssss ... I saje itchy backside wanna email u ... to ask u ... who do u think's gonna be American Idol?

Or more like, I wanna sell the idea to you that ... I REALLY LIKE KRIS ALLEN!

But the hubby hates that I have this crush, so I can't gush on and on and on and on in front of him ... (although at the end of every Idol performance episode, I secretly do a high-5 with my invisible twin because Kris ALWAYS nails it down pat).

Yah lah, I know Adam Lambert's cool and got the stage presence and all those theatrical stuffs that mesmerizes people ... and I also quite like Allison for her fantastic gravelly voice ... but I'm rooting for Kris - because he sings quite well, ALWAYS picks the right songs, looks very comfortable in his own skin (no need for all the make-up and wardrobe), plus he looks cute!

I know la, he's only like 23 or something (and already married, wth) ... small boy this ... but just so adorable, don't u think?

But if u're not a Kris fan, then I better not ramble on.

So tell me where have u planted ur butt these holidays of yours? I am so green I'm practically blue. Btw, I still haven't watched disco week, and I'm so hoping that Kris doesn't screw this up, because if he were to screw up, it'd definitely be disco - dancing not being his strong forte - but if he were to get thru this unscathed ... then all hail the new Idol! Ahahahahaha ;)

Movie Review : The Age of Innocence

Every once in a while, I come across a great period film. This time, it's this :

The Age of Innocence, directed by Martin Scorsese, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder (who won a Golden Globe for her performance here). The movie also won an Oscar for best costume design.

Wikipedia extract :
Newland Archer (Day-Lewis), an affluent lawyer in 1870s New York, is engaged to May Welland (Ryder), a beautiful but conventional socialite. Newland begins to question the life he has planned for himself after the arrival of May’s cousin, the exotic and sophisticated Countess Ellen Olenska (Pfeiffer). Ellen is not seeking a divorce from her abusive husband, a Polish count, but everyone believes she is, which has made her a social outcast and greatly displeases her family, who are afraid of scandal. As Newland grows to care more and more deeply for Ellen, having convinced her not to press for a divorce, he becomes increasingly disillusioned with the society to which he belongs and the idea of entering into a passionless marriage with May. The question at this point, is whether he will follow society's dictates, or his heart. The film, closely mirroring the novel, gives no simple answer.

My take :
Ryder is truly beautiful in this movie - probably the best I've ever seen her. Pfeiffer is odd - because the last I most remember of her is in One Fine Day - and I just couldn't get used to her being the scandalous witch in period dress. Day-Lewis was awesome, totally completely - his eyes were mesmerizing.

It's a sad story, where 2 people meet at the wrong time. On the other hand, I'm glad that Newland stuck with May - who, brainless as she portrays herself to be, knows that her husband "gave up the one thing he truly wanted in this whole world" just to fulfill his responsibilities to her. Triangle-affairs are always messy, and this movie portrays it well. I'm a sucker for romantic movies that make your heart ache that little bit when the credits roll i.e. Before Sunset (another one of my all-time favourites). They don't really make movies like that anymore, do they?
I've got the latest Philippa Gregory sitting on the shelf yet-to-be-read, and the latest American Idol episode yet-to-be-watched, and of course the mundane stuff like floors-to-be-washed, toilets-to-be-scrubbed, laundry-to-be-done. Life is made up of neverending lists of yet-to-be-done's. Yah la, I'm grumpy, sore throat kept me up the whole night. And I still got a deadline to meet by Monday morning. And more deadlines after that. Plus, it feels like a pressure cooker these days. And my nose is running although I'm sweating (or maybe I'm sweating because my nose is running). And I still feel sticky after a bath, like you can't get away from the heat and humidity in the air. If I wanted to complain, it'd be miles long. But, I try try try to be optimistic and keep the negativity to a minimum (and I don't always do this la right?)

I like that I've got Kris Allen crooning to me on my Windows Media Player. I also like that I've got less laundry to do this week. And I like that I'd be quite likely to meet my Monday deadline if I get on with it - like, now.

Bye, I've de-twittered myself because I'm not Ashton Kutcher.

Crush and go

Occasionally, I fall in love with certain movie characters. Besides adorable Kris Allen on Idol - who's not a movie character, but a real person who has made me completely smitten with his senget mouth when he sings - I am having a crush on Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Thanks to everything being easily obtainable these days, I managed to get my hands on a copy of the August Rush soundtrack - and "This Time" is playing repeatedly on the pc while I work thru the weekend.

It's something about guys who can play an acoustic guitar and is the lead singer for a band. Well, not every lead singer - definitely not the Oasis guy, but definitely yes Adam Levine from Maroon 5. So Jon reminds me of him. I can drool all day - but it's not ladylike for someone who's gonna be 30 (not yet, but soon) to be crushing!

Which brings me to the next train of thought. In slightly more than a year, I'll be turning 30. (Belum lagi 29, already thinking so far ahead!) And, my favourite question to all friends who turn 30 : "Is right now where you thought you'd be at 30?"

Well, I'm not there yet. But I've still got time. So yeah, I'm rooting for me :)

Mushy dushy cushy

I watched 2 movies over the week - and they were delightful!
August Rush - about a young orphan boy who searches for his parents. On his quest out of the secluded orphanage, he realizes that the world is made up of sounds - music to his ears. He gets taken in by a sort of orphan-pimp (Robin Williams, who's brilliant) who teaches homeless kids how to beg on music and takes in the boy, realizing the boy's musical genius and the money-making opportunities. The boy gets renamed as August Rush. Somehow, he gains entry into Juilliard - THE music school and gets to conduct his own concert.

The beginning part of the movie flits between flashbacks - of how his parents met, how they fell in love, how he ended up an "orphan". The 2nd half the movie is about how he sharpens his musical inclinations, while his mother searches frantically for him, and his father realizes that he must find his true love. The movie has a happy ending, of course. And a brilliant soundtrack to boot! You'll absolutely fall in love with Jonathan Rhys Meyers' haunting eyes after this movie, trust me. And if you love acoustic guitar and other classical sounds, this movie's definitely for you.

Ghost Town - the title is so unlike any movie I'd willingly watch. But KF said it's not a horror movie, so okay, I give it a try. And I'm pleasantly surprised. Greg Kinnear and Tea Leoni (who's got nice shoulders I should say. This guy Frank dies in an accident. He comes back and haunts the dentist Dr. Pincus - who can apparently see dead people because the dentist died for 7 minutes during surgery and came back alive again, with the side effect of "seeing dead people". Frank soughts Pincus' help to finish his apparent "unfinished business" with his mistress.

The end result is a romantic comedy that's funny and humorous - and I love the sweet ending. I have fulfilled my mushy quota for the month :)
